Four Seasons Resort Carmelo, Uruguay

The verdict: A lovely getaway location & definitely a good additional to your itinerary if you are visiting Buenos Aires (an hour on a ferry plus an hour drive through Uruguay's countryside). 44 impressive bungalows & generous duplex villas. Poor on the dinning front but the upside is there's one very charming local restaurant which provides shuttle bus to & from the hotel. Popular with families so check school holidays before you go there!
