California Dreams
Change is inevitable. When several changes hit you all at once though, it's hard to get your head around it. One of latest adjustments I have to make in my life is when a dear friend announced, rather out of the blue, that he would be uprooting himself from London to L.A. ...and like... next week! Needless to say, I'm incredibly happy for my friend & his new life in his spiritual home. But since I'm allergic to L.A as much as I'm allergic to fleece, the prospect of seeing each other any time soon isn't that great. And so we all got together for one final crazy night (.... at least for now).

Money talks
I wasn't meant to be doing this, I know! As most of you are aware, browsing the internet & accessing certain sites online is pretty restricted here in China. I intended to give blogging a break. Yet, just after a few hrs in the country (where I frequent for almost 10 years in a row now & still can never get my head around it!) my frustration level has already reached its peak. I need an outlet to take my minds of things & I'm far too jetlagged at this point to hit the gym. And so I cheated! Like most things in China, if you are willing to pay there's always a way round it!

The thing called Books
They are one of the 21st century fast disappearing endangered species. Partly due to human destruction of their natural habitat as those of us pre-Justin Bieber generations lovingly referred to them as "bookstores".
Being the capital of a nation renowned not just for their immense adoration for new technology but also for protectively embracing old-traditions, Tokyo, surprisingly, have kept those areas well nurtured. As a result "books", in diverse subspecies including hybrids, are still thriving here. Even more impressive is the fact that people are very much encouraged to visit the so-called "bookstores" which many remain accessible to the public until the early hours of the morning.
I spent a couple precious hours tonight, my first night back in the city in almost over a year, indulging myself in not just one but two "bookstores". I picked up several of the internationally celebrated variant known as "manga" for a son of a friend who, despite already being a multi-lingual Dane, is learning Japanese. He's one of those blessed young ones brought up to still be passionate about the special sensation when the body comes into contact with the book's texture, known in the old English language as "paper".
Trust me, a visit to Tokyo is never complete without the rare experience of immersing yourself late evening in one of those magical spaces.

A trip that wasn't meant to be....
Me & a couple of friends were meant to go to Venice for a long weekend today for the biennale. One friend dropped out as she had to be in Paris for the fashion week. So at the crack of dawn this morning, another friend & I made our way to the airport. En route, we discovered two things: a) the zipper on his suitcase was broken b) we both forgot our mobile phones. I was very much looking forward to taking my Prada weekender on its first trip, sadly all it got was a return journey on the Gatwick Express! Oh well....

John Galliano left rehab
John Galliano was spotted on Sunday @ LAX after he checked out of rehab in Arizona and en-route back to Europe.
PS. Dior says that they will not announce his successor until November. The "team" will be in charge of producing the couture collection in July and SS12 ready-to-wear in September.
